It's quite easy to romanticize Italy. Mediterranean climate. Beautiful views combined with fantastic food and maybe a glass or two of wine in a picturesque seaside village. The mental picture you like to paint fits like a glove on the Portofino community. A place on earth that is better suited than most to get around or to in a stripped-down Ferrari. So much so that Ferrari has let the name of the place adorn one of its perhaps most desirable convertibles. Welcome to Ferrari Portofino....M.

We'll get to those with 'M' a little further on, but first we just have to gather ourselves a little to take in this wonderful design. One of Ferrari's perhaps most successful in modern times. Just as beautiful both with the roof on and without something that is very, very difficult to achieve in car design.

It is a sleek and elegant design to approach. Here in a gray suit that Ferrari themselves call Grigio Silverstone. A timeless and classic Ferrari color that perfectly suits a sober Portofino. The gray body is accompanied by gray five-spoke rims that in turn hide large ceramic brakes that are stopped by yellow brake calipers. The whole is timeless Ferrari. The slim door handles open to an interior that breaks the gray exterior with natural brown leather that is permeated with contrasting stitching and aluminum details. The seats are adorned with quilted leather with sewn-in Cavallino horses in the headrests. The driver's environment is dominated by the steering wheel that is in the same Cuoio leather as the rest of the hub, the inside with carbon fiber inserts and with the new, familiar LED ramp at the top that acts as a gear indicator. In front of the passenger a simple 'Portofina M' emblem.

And then there was that 'M'. M for Modificata. A letter that has adorned icons such as the Ferrari 512 and others and in the case of the Portofino indicates an updated and improved version of the car. The 3.9L turbocharged V8 that is largely shared with its sibling 488 received an increased power and now delivers a full 620hp through an 8-speed gearbox that together takes the car to 200 in under 10 seconds. A full second faster than a 'regular' Portofino. The exterior was refined with new bumpers and a more sculpted soft top.

A wonderfully well-specified example of Ferrari's wonderful Portofino M. Timeless in its appearance and with performance that shocks.
