The 600LT is only the fourth McLaren ever to carry the Longtail name, following the F1 GTR, the 675LT and the 650S LT. Compared to the 570S, the car shed 96 kg through carbon fibre body panels, the lighter brakes and suspension from the 720S, and the carbon fibre racing seats first used on the P1. The 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8 produces 600 ps and 620 Nm. The exhaust no longer exits at the rear but straight up, just above the driver's shoulders. That brought weight savings, reduced back pressure and 100 kg of additional downforce through a fully unobstructed rear diffuser.

Fun fact: the top-exit exhaust is shorter than the exhaust on the McLaren Senna. Not because it could be, but because it had to be.

De 600LT is de vierde McLaren ooit die de Longtail naam draagt, na de F1 GTR, de 675LT en de 650S LT. Ten opzichte van de 570S verloor de auto 96 kg, dit dankzij de carbon fibre carrosseriepanelen, de lichtere remmen en ophanging van de 720S en de carbon kuipstoelen die McLaren voor het eerst op de P1 gebruikte. De 3,8 liter V8 biturbo levert 600 pk en 620 Nm. De uitlaatgassen gaan niet meer naar achteren maar recht omhoog, net boven de schouders van de bestuurder. Dat leverde gewichtsbesparing op, minder tegendruk en 100 kg extra neerwaartse druk via een volledig vrijgekomen achterdiffusor.

Leuk detail: de top exit uitlaat is korter dan de uitlaat van de McLaren Senna. Niet omdat het kon, maar omdat het moest.

Par rapport à la 570S, la voiture a perdu 96 kg grâce aux panneaux de carrosserie en fibre de carbone, aux freins et à la suspension allégés de la 720S, et aux baquets en fibre de carbone apparus pour la première fois sur la P1. Le V8 biturbo de 3,8 litres développe 600 ps et 620 Nm. L'échappement ne sort plus à l'arrière mais vers le haut, juste au-dessus des épaules du conducteur. Cela a permis un gain de poids, une réduction de la contre-pression et 100 kg d'appui supplémentaire grâce à un diffuseur arrière entièrement dégagé.

Anecdote: l'échappement à sortie supérieure est plus court que celui de la McLaren Senna. Non pas parce que c'était possible, mais parce que c'était nécessaire.
