Just over 40 years ago, BMW introduced perhaps the brand's most important model ever. A model that came to be synonymous with the entire brand and actually in turn came to shape a whole new segment. The E28 5-series formed the basis for the new performance variant that was simply called the M5 and now, as I said, just over 40 years later, the model is still with us. Now in its seventh generation. A car that may be visually very different from its ancestor but that in its DNA retains its character. The G90 M5 was introduced in 2024 and is for the first time an M5 that assists its V8 with hybrid technology to deliver a full 727hp to all four wheels. A figure that may be easy to write or read but which in real life is difficult to take in when you once experience it. But even though the powertrain may be one of the most impressive aspects of the new M5, it is not what raises eyebrows the most. This Swedish-sold example is delivered in a Sophisto Grey exterior with Style 952M rims in 20/21". As befits an M5, it is a sober exterior that hides its performance well under an elegant suit. The front is dominated by its illuminated kidneys which in turn are flanked by BMW Laser headlights. The side profile is stripped down and simple but still appears sporty. The tinted windows are framed here by a decorative strip in black high-gloss. At the rear, the car carries a discreet M5 emblem but is not ashamed of its four black exhaust pipes from the V8.

Just like the exterior, the interior is sober and elegant. Divided into black and Merino Silverstone leather, this interior is permeated by a decorative lighting beyond the ordinary. The dynamic lighting runs across the dashboard and doors and shifts and invites you to a digital but cozy interior. The driver's environment is dominated by two displays and a heads-up in the driver's line of sight. As we have become accustomed to when it comes to BMW's modern M cars, the steering wheel offers many of the car's dynamic controls with quick selection for driving modes through its "M" buttons.

A wonderfully elegantly specified M5 with more performance than feels reasonable in the segment. Well maintained and with the right options.
