In a world of downsizing and electrification, the engineers in Stuttgart are working feverishly to keep building the world's best sports car, and the new 992.2 GTS seems to buck the trend—at least in part. Under the hood, we now find a 3.6-liter engine with a single turbo, replacing the 3.0-liter twin-turbo unit found in the previous model. Assisting this new engine is a turbocharger—but not just any turbocharger. A small electric motor sits between the turbine and compressor wheels; under load, it spins up the turbo faster to eliminate lag, while during coasting, the exhaust gases passing through the turbo drive it to act as a small generator for the battery. This setup, combined with an electric motor positioned between the engine and the transmission, delivers a combined output of 541 hp—a significant step up from the previous car's 480 hp.

This example is specified in one of the new colors for the model—Vanadium Grey Metallic—combined with black 20-inch and 21-inch wheels. While the exterior is largely familiar from the 992.1, there are, of course, differences. At the front, the car features a new look with completely redesigned air ducting and active air flaps, as well as headlights that—for the first time—incorporate the position lights and turn signals. At the rear, the car sports a new light strip featuring "Exclusive Design" lights with clear lenses, while a centrally positioned titanium sports exhaust system sits at the bottom edge. Additionally, both the front and rear bumpers are accented with carbon fiber details. The interior is finished in full brown leather, with elements such as the steering column and decorative trim matching in both color and material. Ahead of the driver lies a "GT" steering wheel with a drive mode switch, backed by a fully digital instrument cluster. The Porsche crest is embossed on the headrests of the sports seats.

It is the same story every time a new 911 is unveiled: we are amazed that they managed to make the world’s best sports car even better. And this model is certainly no exception. The days of turbo lag and unpredictable handling are long gone. The new 992.2 GTS seamlessly delivers 541 hp to the rear wheels, and the 911 has arguably never been more fun to drive.
